Common Questions About the Barrow Way
Everything you need to know about cycling the restored canal towpath from St Mullins to Graiguenamanagh

At a relaxed pace with stops for scenery and wildlife spotting, most people take 3 to 4 hours to complete the full 18km. If you prefer a shorter route, the St Mullins to Tintern Abbey section is about 7km and takes roughly 90 minutes.
The restored towpath is well-maintained and clearly marked. It's quiet compared to roads, so you won't deal with traffic. If you'd rather have company and local knowledge, our guided tours include experienced guides who know every section and can point out wildlife, history, and the best rest spots.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are ideal—mild weather, fewer crowds, and beautiful wildflowers or golden light. Summer works too if you go early in the morning. Winter is quieter but can be muddy, so wear appropriate tyres.
